Ash-throated Flycatcher
A second “Tyrant” spotted on my Grand Canyon trip, though this time from far away! The crown cuts a different profile than the other.
Western Bluebird
Bluebirds are delightful little birds. Visually striking, often hanging out in groups so that there’s plenty to look at—always a fun spot!
Say’s Phoebe
A skillful flyer who I witnessed catching many a bug! A very cute bird for being a part of a family called “Tyrants”
Mountain Chickadee
A bird whose call matches their name — but this time in the mountains (or a Grand Canyon)!
Lesser Goldfinch
A bright yellow bird spotted not far from the Grand Canyon!
I think he should be the Grand Goldfinch!
Common Raven
These intelligent birds were hanging out at the Grand Canyon nature center, where they were almost certainly looking to pick up free snacks.
Red Crossbill
This bird may not be red, but I think we still have an example juvenile of the Red Crossbill species here!
American Bushtit
Not a lot of good photos of this one.
There’s a censored/blurred image joke here with this bird in particular, but I don’t feel like putting it together.
Brewer’s Blackbird
A common, but very fun to watch bird! These pictures are all from Grand Canyon Village!
Chipping Sparrow
With its chestnut cap and black eyeliner, the chipping sparrow is looking cute!
The former iconic sparrow of North America.
Bahama Mockingbird
The mockingbird sits high upon its perch—a raised stage from which it sings to all who would hear its song.
Yellow-rumped Warbler
I spotted a bunch of these all on one walk, and some were even chasing bugs! How exciting!
Chipping Sparrow
With its chestnut cap and black eyeliner, the chipping sparrow is looking cute!
The former iconic sparrow of North America.
American Goldfinch
The tiniest tennis ball bird. I've seen them darting around now and again but caught a couple pictures when they took a break on a branch!
Tree Swallow
This whole session was shots of opportunity, but this tree swallow photographed from the window of a moving car is perhaps the most egregious of all I took that day.
Brown-headed Cowbird
A brood parasite that I’ve only photographed through a window, unfortunately.
Tufted Titmouse
Skittish little guy who was scavenging in the leaves and branches. Had to be patient to wait for him to come out into the open!
