I didn’t expect this to be a new species, just another egret! But Merlin thinks it is and on inspection I agree! Snapping pictures of every bird I see does pay off! …occasionally.

This night-heron doesn’t seem too pleased with being photographed during the day… but what striking colors, especially that bright eye!

Compared to other egrets, I do understand the name. But when I was standing not too far from it, the bird does seem quite big!

At this time, this is one of the best bird photos I’ve ever taken, I think!

A very elegant bird preparing for 花見 in Ueno Park!

Just one picture, but compared to most one picture birds, this one is really nice!

Though unfortunately, the lighting doesn’t really highlight the iridescent green that they’re known to have. Still, I think it’s a solid shot!

A very silly waterbird noted for its neck and face. Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of it in its iconic poses.

Barely got a picture before this one flew out of sight to not be seen again for the rest of the walk. I wish it was a better picture, but I'll take what I can get!
