Black-crowned Night Heron

A lurking Night Heron! This was a fun bird to find! As the name suggests, they’re more active at night than during the day, but as you can tell, it’ quite bright! This was in a small state park on an island, where these birds occasionally hide out during the day, taking a much needed nap. We were a pretty good distance away (and the trail has railings to keep people from wandering into the plants so we couldn’t get closer if we wanted to) but the bird’s size and the R7’s reach proved enough! It was a windy day, and I was able to get a couple shots where the sunlight lit up its bright red eye! Dazzling!
