Snowy Egret

A surprising addition to my species collection! There was a protected area full of shorebirds that I was hoping to be able to photograph from a nearby dune or jetty but couldn’t get too much visibility into. Which is understandable. I think I do have a couple of Sanderlings and Turnstones from the one area I was able to approach (don’t worry, I stayed on the correct side of the rope) and peek to the little pool of water they were hanging out at.

But anyway, too much exposition. I saw this egret fly out of that area and decided to snap a picture as it left. At the time, I just assumed I had it already as I have several egrets and it’s pretty similar at a glance. But after verifying it with Merlin, I believe this is a Snowy Egret because of it’s feet! (or at least that’s the thing that stands out to me as the most distinct feature from other Egrets). Accidental new species! Neat!
