Gull-billed Tern
Another unexpected species! I believe this is a gull-billed tern. There were a few terns at the shore, most of them common terns, but this one has a different feather pattern. I believe it’s a juvenile in the process of gaining its adult plumage? I’ve seen some pictures of these terns with a dark eye spot before it grows to become its full cap, though I suppose it’s possible I’ve messed up the ID. The dark beak I think also is a trait of this species.
