Oriental Greenfinch

Unfortunately, I saw these small finches only briefly and only once during my time in Japan! They were high up in some trees in Ueno Park!

Finches have a great shape! The first picture I think shows some of the distinctive features better (and honestly, I’m surprised how good the focus is with the branches between me and the bird!), but the rightmost finch on the second image has such a shape!

I don’t remember if I talked about this in another post, but the way I take these photos, I often don’t identify the birds involved until the next “downtime” I have, and even then if multiple species look similar I may not ID them until the trip is over and I really sit down and compare options! So sometimes, I don’t realize what I’m taking pictures of is a novel (to me) species! D’oh! I do wish I had tried to find another angle of these so I could’ve gotten some clearer pictures.
