Dark-eyed Junco

These tiny birds often visit The Library, but they are usually evasive and difficult to photograph. But! One day, a nice bit of snow brought them out into the open! Not only that, but they came and perched pretty close to the window where I was taking photographs! The one in the first two pictures in particular was a great subject and came right down like she was curious about me!

I’ve recently learned that what I thought was a separate species from my Grand Canyon trip is in fact still a Dark-eyed Junco! Not only that, but they come in even more variants! Just like regional pokemon. So neat! In fact, there are six different regional variants! Maybe one day I’ll have photos of them all!
