Black Guillemot

Black Guillemots! I was very excited to see these.
In a way, they’re one of the birds that really inspired me to pick up bird photography. On a trip in Alaska, I struggled to recount the details of a bird I had seen while looking in a bird ID guide. I had thought it was a guillemot but I wasn’t quite sure. Later on, my siblings were taking photos of landscapes and I had them zoom as best they could on birds so I could have a record to ID against. And doing that was fun! So now? Now I take photos too!
They’re auks, just like puffins, and fittingly I saw quite a few on the puffin tour I took to Petit Manan! It’s weird to call seeing them again nostalgia, but I am glad I got the chance to! They’re easy to recognize thanks to their bright red feet and white wingstripes.
You can’t really see in any of my photos, but these birds have a vibrant red inside of their mouth too!
