Atlantic Puffin

PUFFINS!

I went on a boat tour to Petit Manan specifically to look for puffins. What started as a very foggy day was full of chills and choppy water. But shortly after we reached the island, the fog parted—we watched the lighthouse emerge before our eyes! And just after? Puffins galore!

Now, this was the first time I was taking photos on a boat. I wasn’t really prepared well for the rocking, and the cloudy/foggy weather didn’t help with the lighting. I’m sure I could’ve gotten better photos with this same kit, but I still think these are solid as is!

I’m quite fond of these little guys. Such vibrant beaks and overall great shape! Petit Manan is where they nest. I scanned the shore for any babies, but alas I wasn’t able to spot them. The researchers on the island were conducting a survey that day on the terns, though I doubt that was the reason why.
