American Herring Gull

A rather common sight but not one I’ve encountered with my camera before!
It was nice to see some in a less, “preying on the snacks brought by humans to the beach” manner! From picking apart a crab in the first photo, to hanging out on a bird-sanctuary island in the fourth, and claiming a floating dock in the fifth, these gulls seemed to be having a great time! There are also a couple Great Black-backed Gulls in those last two photos!
Seagulls are often viewed as pests, but honestly? They’re just going after the easiest prey—the trash and detritus that humans so carelessly leave behind (or unsecured).
