Zone-tailed Hawk

During my time at the Grand Canyon, I paid extra attention to any bird I saw soaring high in the sky. The critically endangered California Condor is known to be in the area, so I prioritized getting as many shots of them as possible.

This is not the California Condor, but it is still a pretty cool hawk! The distinct stripe on the tail is what gives me that ID. While the picture is kinda blurry, I cannot understate just how far away this bird was. The ability to even get that clear beak shape and tail pattern at all is why I took up bird photography—rather than see them through binoculars and have to remember the details to ID them, now I have a moment of them frozen in time!
