Wilson’s Storm Petrel

Storm Petrels. I hadn’t heard of these birds before, but I immediately loved them from the name alone. The naturalist on our ship said they aren’t much bigger than robins! Given that, I’m amazed I got these pictures at all!

Their name comes from how they would flee from storms and, as such, ships at sea would often see these small birds in large numbers shortly before a storm struck them!

Honestly, these might be one of my new favorite birds (which is a long list to be fair). I hope one day I can get a better photo of them!

I had to guess whether these were wilson’s or leach’s storm petrels, so I went with what Merlin ID’d.
