Northern Flicker

The journey to getting this photograph was a fraught one! I saw many a flicker clinging to a tree in the distance, back turned and bright red patch staring at me. But due to branches, distance, lighting and a variety of circumstances, none of those sightings resulted in great photos (though they were good enough to ID).

Then, this one came along while I was photographing other birds! Just landed out in the open and nearby! What a generous bird!

The second image isn’t as good as the the first in terms of bird detail, but I do like the Flicker in the tree overlooking the cliffside!
