Japanese Woodpecker

This is such a great coloration for a woodpecker! There’s red on the cheek and top of the head, then there’s green, yellow, and orange on the back, and then that fun speckled pattern on the belly! They have a lot going on but it works, I think!

The only bad thing with these shots was that the woodpecker was so high above me I couldn’t get any straight-on shots.

This was the last new bird I saw on my trip to Japan! I took an early morning walk before checking out of my hotel and starting the long trip back home. It was a great bird to see last thing before leaving!
